This just in:
I got to play tourist in my own backyard to write this piece on the Puget Sound Region for Alaska Airlines magazine. From the Space Needle to the Scuba Park and Tacoma to Everett, take a peek around the Puget Sound.
Happy National Library Week and National Library Workers' Day!
I was pleased to be able to sit down and chat with Librarian Superhero, Nancy Pearl for this month's issue of Alaska Airlines Beyond magazine. Find out why Pearl thinks libraries can change a person's life and why she thinks it's okay to skip ahead and read the ending of a mystery.... SLO Town
I got the chance to write about my old California stomping grounds in Alaska Airlines' magazine recent feature on San Luis Obispo. Butterflies, mansions, beaches and wine, oh my! Talking about books
My colleagues ran a little Q/A about what I'm reading in the Shelf Awareness Daily newsletter. I loved the John Cage book that we read for the Bowie Book Club this March and while I'm still plugging away at Proust's epic, I most frequently re-read Moby Dick, which won't be a surprise to most folks that know me. The Bbc on ABC
Greg and I were interviewed for the Book Hub on ABC Radio National, Australia, about our Bowie Bookclub podcast and how unpredictable and inspiring David Bowie's book list can be. Find us chatting with the charming Claire Nichols following a piece on writing tips from John McPhee and a profile of Western Sydney's diverse literacy collective, Sweatshop. Get Your Jareth On!
Greg and I were interviewed by Dwarf + Giant, the blog at The Last Bookstore in Los Angeles, and got to talk about how our bookclub got started, whether we're going to impose a dress code, and our early David Bowie memories. I started talking on the internet! For almost a decade I've had a bookclub with my friend, Greg Miller. We started with the intention of reading through some of the books we've always meant to read. After the sad news of David Bowie's passing early this year, we decided to steer our two-member club toward a bit of a Bowie tribute and we launched The Bowie Book Club podcast to read through the artist's famous 100 favorite books list. Check us out also on Facebook & Twitter, where we post the ephemera along our way though each book. It was a pleasure to work with Melinda Gates and write this cover profile, Giving Spirit for the Alaska Airlines Magazine, Alaska Beyond.
I was recently named the winner of the 16th annual Oregon Quarterly Northwest Perspectives Essay Contest and journeyed to Eugene to read my essay, Water, Water Everywhere.
